In 2024, the Copa America came to the United States for an historic and unforgettable edition of the tournament.

Once again the 10 CONMEBOL (South American) representatives have competed alongside the best from CONCACAF, with six sides from North and Central America taking part on this occasion.

Once the lights of the event begin to go out, it will be time to think about what is coming at the continental level with the Copa America 2028.

The Sporting News reviews the possible host candidates and what we know so far.

When will the Copa America 2028 be played?

The 2028 Copa America schedule has not been officially set, but in principle, the tournament will be held between June and July of that year — in line with the regular schedule for the competition.

Where will the Copa America 2028 be played?

South American football's organizing body, CONMEBOL, has not yet determined the venue for the 2028 Copa America, but some candidates can already dream of hosting the tournament.

Ecuador, which hosted in 1993, was the first country to apply for the next edition. Their bid was announced on February 22, 2024, by Daniel Noboa, the country's president, on his X account.

Ignacio Alonso, president of the Uruguayan Football Association, told Uruguayan newspaper El País there was the possibility of hosting the tournament in 2028, along with Paraguay and Argentina, in potential pilot test towards the 2030 World Cup.

"It is a good idea," he told the newspaper. "There was very informal conversation, but there is no candidacy. It has been around a bit depending on what the historical rotation is and that there is a kind of impossibility for a single country to organize a party like this."
