'I painted my pool my favorite color - I wasn't expecting my neighbor to completely lose it'

While the conventional hues for swimming pools are blue and white, there's no hard rule that says you can't break from tradition. One man took to Reddit to share his experience of painting his pool emerald green , his favourite colour.

He wrote about how his neighbour wasn't too pleased with his unconventional choice. "One of my neighbours complained about our green pool. It had been neglected for the winter and was looking a bit gross. I was actually in the middle of getting the chemicals sorted when an officer from the council turned up to do an inspection," he shared on Reddit.

"I showed her all the chemicals and she was satisfied that I was getting it sorted. A week later, and she's back. Neighbours have complained again. It turned out the fiberglass in the pool was badly damaged and we've decided to rip it out and start again."

The neighbour wasn't a fan of the concrete pool either. The council officer mentioned that the neighbour kept going on about how at least the concrete look was better than green.

They apparently went on at length about how much they hated looking at a green pool.

After hearing the neighbours' complaints about the pool's colour, the cheeky tradesman offered a discount if they proceeded with the green pool. "Green is my favourite colour. I've always wanted a green pool. We're going to start painting next week," he added.

The neighbours looked on in shock as the tradesman began to paint the pool green.

"Today the neighbours realised that the pool was going to stay green. I saw them peering over the fence and they did not look pleased," he shared.

The angry neighbours, citing a non-existent law, threatened to call the police if the pool painting continued. However, they quickly backtracked when asked to provide proof of such a law.

"I've been a thorn in their side since they moved in and it's our fault they've had to complain so much," he admitted. The clearly infuriated neighbours even threatened to 'fix' the pool themselves and send some 'friends' over to show how serious they were.

"At that point, I showed them one of the new security cameras," he added. "I reported it to the police who said they'd go round and have a chat with them and also consulted a lawyer. They confirmed that there is no law against a green pool and he offered to send a cease and desist letter for us if he could come and swim in the green pool.

"It's worth mentioning that both the police officer and the lawyer are friends/relatives of the tradies who have worked tirelessly to get this done. Being kind to people pays off."

The Reddit post garnered numerous comments. One user wrote: "What delicious pettiness. I personally would opt for the Brook Green, simply because it looks more like algae."

"The emerald green is beautiful. If I were your neighbor I'd totally love looking at that," one Reddit user commented. Another chimed in with support, saying: "Hells yeah. Put a huge blow-up flamingo in there... just for the aesthetic y'know."
