Draymond Green ’s instigator antics might have occasionally left the Golden State Warriors in hot water, but his protective instincts toward his teammates extend beyond the basketball court. His willingness to confront those who threaten or disrespect his colleagues and their families was notably demonstrated when he defended Stephen Curry ’s family by throwing food at a heckling fan during an NFL game.

Steph saw Draymond throw grapes at a fan

Despite their contrasting personalities—Steph has a more composed and calm demeanor, whereas Green has a more volatile attitude—the two Warriors stars have developed a strong bond over time. Their on-court chemistry, which took time to cultivate, eventually blossomed into brotherhood, to the extent that their families would socialize together.

So, when Draymond, Coach Steve Kerr, and Steph with his family attended a Carolina Panthers game, an obnoxious fan started heckling Curry’s mother. Draymond, true to his protective nature, instantly threw his food at the individual.

"I guess he might've felt like we were on the court when a fan started yelling at my mom," Curry said . "I started yelling at (the fan). Next thing I know, I just see some grapes flying over my shoulder at the dude."

Steph is the stabilizing force for Draymond

Certainly, the four-time All-Star doesn’t mind risking his reputation off the court, increasing his physical intensity on the court to protect his teammates. Coach Kerr recognized early on that the two-time MVP serves as the stabilizing force that Green needs to calm his temper on multiple occasions, which is why he labeled them as ‘the yin and the yang.’

"One of the reasons they're so good together is that Steph appreciates Draymond's fire and embraces it. And he has a very calming effect on Draymond and on the team," Kerr said. "So in some ways, they're kind of the yin and the yang, and they lead our team accordingly."

Interestingly, the profound brotherhood between these two All-Stars found its genesis at a surprise birthday party thrown by Ayesha Curry for her husband. During a private moment, Dray handed a special package with five selected wines and a heartfelt note that contained how much he admires him as a father, husband, and man. While their on-court synergy was already well-established, the respect and love shown so evidently deeply touched the 3-Point King.

"The influence of how we live our lives and what's important off the court and us growing into family men kinda on the same timeline. That's the stuff we'll talk about forever," Steph said. "That means a lot."

Although Chef and Klay Thompson are famously dubbed the ‘Splash Brothers,’ the bond between the 2022 Finals MVP and Draymond, though lacking a catchy moniker, is deeper than most could even expect.
