Around the NFL podcast canceled as Gregg Rosenthal releases emotional statement

NFL Network writer and personality Gregg Rosenthal has confirmed that their incredibly popular 'Around the NFL podcast' has been canceled .

Rosenthal, along with host Dan Hanzus and Marc Sessler have recorded the podcast every week for the past 11 years, quickly becoming the NFL's most popular podcast with hundreds of thousands of listeners with over a million followers across their social media platforms.

The show has been off-the-air for the past six weeks, with many questioning why, with the podcast never been away for longer than a week since 2013. Hanzus had previously hinted that the show could be coming towards its end, with this being confirmed by Rosenthal on X on Sunday.

Rosenthal released a long statement confirming the show's cancelation. He said: "We started the Around the NFL Podcast 11 years and over 1,600 episodes ago. We didn’t take a single break in all the years since, which is part of what made the last six weeks so heartbreaking. I never expected our last show on May 23 to be our *last show,* but here we are.

"Taping the show together was a constant thrill as it changed our lives and our lives changed around it. We taped before games and after games, in Culver City and Inglewood. We taped on stage in London and from home. We taped two days after Wess died, on Super Bowl Sunday.

"I’m going to miss a lot, especially the magic that happened when we hit record. Dan is a brilliant and hilarious host, able to create an entire world for us to play in. Marc writes like no one else; just sitting next to him made me feel more alive. We all made each other better and are forever bonded.

"I am so grateful to the countless people who helped us along the way, especially the listeners. I can’t thank you all enough for letting us become part of your lives and sticking with us through everything. I hope that support continues for all of us in our next steps. I will be staying at the NFL, but for now I just wanted to give thanks to everyone that helped us on this incredible journey before starting the next one. Heed the call."

The show first began in 2013, when the trio combined with long-time NFL Network writer Chris Wesseling. They would become best friends over the years, with the three being groomsmen at Wesseling's wedding in 2019. Tragically, Wesseling died in 2021 - two days before the Super Bowl with Hanzus, Sessler and Rosenthal recording a heartwrenching show in tribute to him. The three remain very close with his family, with their podcast studio in the NFL's facility in Los Angeles being named after him.

The podcast had continued through to May 2024, when the show had, out of nowhere, stopped posting episodes with Rosenthal confirming why on Sunday.

Many believe the show ended to be the latest round of job cuts within the NFL Network , after letting go several well-known personalities earlier this year.
