The WNBA continues to grow in popularity as more interest rises in the sport and the players. As the league grabs the attention of millions, viewers are turning their heads to the ESPN analysts and commentators. As part of the sport network’s commitment to diversity in its storytelling, ESPN’s pre-game show, “WNBA Countdown,” will feature six Black women in its programming. The show’s recent additions include Chiney Ogwumike, Elle Duncan and Andraya Carter.

Learn more about these broadcast journalists making strides in the sports industry.

    Chiney Ogwumike

Chiney Ogwumike is no stranger to the spotlight. The ESPN commentator has a long history with the network, providing her professional basketball analysis of players and the sport. Throughout the years, she has appeared on several ESPN platforms, including “NBA Today,” “SportsCenter,” “First Take,” “Get Up” and “NBA Countdown.”

Her relationship with the sports network expanded in 2021 after the launch of her podcast “Chiney.” As the podcast host, Ogwumike educates listeners through discussions about current events in the sports industry. Before transitioning into her media career full-time, Ogwumike is also a professional WNBA player who previously played for the Los Angeles Sparks.

    Elle Duncan

Elle Duncan started her broadcast career in entertainment before venturing into sports. In 2023, she was an entertainment reporter for an Atlanta sports radio station before becoming an on-air personality for the city’s hip-hop station V103. She stayed with V103 for seven years, eventually expanding her coverage to incorporate sports. As Duncan transitioned into sports media, she worked several on-air positions. She was a sideline reporter for the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks and became a field reporter for Comcast Sports South on SEC and ACC football. In 2016, she found herself at ESPN as an anchor for SportsCenter. Outside of her work with ESPN, she hosts her YouTube Show, “The Elle Duncan Show.” There, she reacts and discusses the biggest headlines in sports and culture.

    Andraya Carter

Andraya Carter is an ESPN game analyst who has carved a path for herself since joining the sports network in 2018. She is known for her basketball coverage and is the only analyst who covers NBA, WNBA, NCAAW and NCAAM basketball. The Atlanta native also made history as the first woman desk analyst on men’s “College GameDay.” Her work as a reporter doesn’t go unnoticed, as she has received several awards. In 2023, she received the Dawn Staley Excellence in Broadcasting Award. She also earned a Sports Emmy nomination in the Emerging On-Air Talent category, among other honors.
