In a recent clip shared by TLC , Darian, 18, announced to her parents that she landed a job at a recording studio. The good news came after the disappointment of not being accepted into NYU.
Deon and Karen celebrated their daughter's new gig, where she'll learn about the music industry and learn how to produce music in addition to working with other artists. However, that wasn't all she revealed to her parents.
"Also I wanted to say that, being that I am doing this job, I want to move out," the teenager told them. "So I am just asking for your blessing."
In a confessional with producers, Deon shared, "My firstborn tells me that she wants to move out and hasn't even started the job yet. I mean, she hasn't gotten one paycheck. Whoa! Slow this thing down."
Karen attempted to pump the brakes on the idea, telling Darian, "Hey, look. I'm still a little nervous because we still want to make sure you've thought everything through. And as much as you think you've thought everything through, you really, truly haven't."
Deon explained to their daughter that a one-bedroom apartment in a "decent area" near them costs between $1,350 and $1,700 monthly.
"Although you have the job now, it's still going to take a period of time to accumulate the amount of money you need," he added.
To that, Darian confessed, "I'm still researching and getting an understanding of everything."
Still, she insisted: "I feel like I really want and need this. This is a big step in my life. I need to know what it's like to be independent, even if it's going to be hard."
