The 5 French Fashion Trends Parisian Girlies Can’t Stop Wearing
By Olivia Marcus,

Summer is finally here, and I’ve just returned from a trip to the City of Light where I spent a few blissful days wandering around Le Marais, sipping Champagne at Bonnie rooftop, and splurging at La Samaritaine department store. Though I may not be a real Parisian, I can certainly try to dress like one. These five French fashion trends for 2024 are already being worn by the Parisian fashion set—and imitation is the highest form of flattery.
There is nowhere I feel more inspired than Paris. Between the city’s architecture, history, art, food, and fashion, it’s easy to spend every minute of my time soaking up my surroundings. I inevitably fly home with a suitcase full of ideas.
Parisian style has always been rooted in classics. A trench coat, a swipe of red lipstick, loafers, and a Longchamp tote are all top of mind when I think of a Parisian-style aesthetic. However, it would be insulting to the French fashion influence to work off of such limited aesthetic parameters.

During my trip, I stayed at SO/ Paris hotel , a modern five-star in Le Marais that attracts fashion industry clientele and locals alike—a perfect location for people-watching. This season, I noticed an incredible balance between fun and function in Parisian street style.

A shimmering platelet Rabanne mini skirt and a practical handbag are equally valuable in a Parisian cool-girl wardrobe. And if my American perspective doesn’t sell you on it, don’t worry, I consulted the impeccably dressed personal stylist at La Samaritaine, the famous Parisian department store, for an expert’s perspective.
Grégoire Metoz works with shoppers from all over the world and has a dedicated roster of French fashionistas. If there’s anyone that knows what Parisians are buying, it’s him.
According to Metoz, you can expect to see an increase in color and texture in the summer fashion palette. “Every collection has loads of orange and lots of baby blue. And of course, florals—but not just prints, actual floral embroidery,” Metoz says.

If you’ve already opted into classic French style via a Sé zane trench coat, consider pairing it with an embroidered blouse or mini skirt to transition into warmer weather. The easiest way to adopt a French fashion aesthetic? “Stick to brands that are designed or made in Europe like Nanushka or Forte Forte. Rabanne is having a moment and Ganni is a brand that the French love,” says Metoz.
Another brand that both the French and Americans love is Polène . If I had a dollar (or euro) for every Polène bag I’ve seen on the streets of Paris or New York City, I’d be booking a return flight to Paris.
According to Emma Mawdlsey, the Paris-based PR manager at Polène, French and American girls alike have decided that the age of the micro-bag is over. In both countries, Polène’s bestselling handbag is the Numéro Dix, a purse spacious enough to fit your phone, wallet, sunglasses, and chapstick with extra wiggle room. It may be time to give your Jacquemus micro bag a much-needed vacation and opt for a more practical crossbody.

Something I love about French style is that the trends have some longevity. The trends are relatively vague—like a crossbody bag resurgence—which gives the wearer the power to adapt the trend for their own personal style. This helps ensure pieces last longer in your closet and encourages thoughtful purchases over convenient fast fashion grabs.
