MLB Makes Big Paul Skenes Announcement

Pirates rookie pitcher Paul Skenes made MLB history after being named a member of the 2024 NL All-Star team.

He's the first player to be drafted No. 1 overall and make the mid-season exhibition game the following year.

In his first 10 starts, Skenes is 5-0 with a 2.12 earned run average (ERA). He has 78 strikeouts and only 12 walks in 59.1 innings.

Per Baseball Reference , his 78 strikeouts are the eighth-most in a pitcher's first 10 games in MLB history.

In his last outing, a 14-2 Pirates win over the Mets, he pitched seven innings and struck out eight batters while allowing two runs.

Per MLB.com Pirates beat writer Alex Stumpf, Skenes is also the first rookie pitcher in franchise history to be named an All-Star.

Skenes was selected No. 1 overall in the 2023 MLB Draft after a phenomenal senior year at LSU, where he won a national championship.

In 19 starts for the Tigers in 2023, Skenes was 13-2, with a 1.69 ERA and 209 strikeouts in 122.2 innings pitched.

He made his MLB debut on May 11 after beginning the season in triple-AAA Indianapolis.

The 2024 All-Star Game is on July 16.
