New York Jets' Offensive Coordinator Nathaniel Hackett imagines what can be

New York Jets ' offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett said what any Garrett Wilson fan must be thinking heading into the 2024 season.

If Jets' WR1 has been this good thus far, imagine what can be with four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback.

"A guy like Garrett to have so many different guys, in his first two years, throwing him the football and still be able to have the production that he has," said Hackett during a July 1 episode of the Official Jets Podcast .

In 2023, Wilson caught passes from the likes of Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian. One year earlier, it was a combination of Wilson, Mike White, Joe Flacco and Chris Streveler.

Despite the chaos around him, Wilson recorded the most receiving yards by a Jet in the first two seasons of a career. Eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark in back-to-back years, the 2022 first-round draft pick has totaled 2,145 yards and seven touchdowns on 178 receptions.

"Just to be able get the production that he has, without that [quarterback] consistency, when you get that consistency it's gonna be fun to watch him out there," said Hackett.

Jets' quarterbacks collectively ranked next-to-last in the NFL in yards per pass play, but Wilson made the most of it.

"He just wants to make as many plays as he can. He's the ultimate, ultimate competitor," said Hackett.

Wilson, who turns 24 years old on July 22, will likely see a bump in catchable targets while working with Rodgers.

"They still don't have a lot of game experience together. It's one thing in practice to continually do it, versus a very good defense that we go against every single day, but they gotta get out there on the field and get that feel for each other," said Hackett.

Jets' veterans are slated to report to training camp on July 23 in Florham Park.
