Liverpool is taking an "opportunistic" view in the transfer market this summer. That is what new sporting director Richard Hughes explained during his introductory press conference alongside head coach Arne Slot .

And according to Football Insider , the Reds have "set their sights" on a move for Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri . Despite having Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas at Anfield already, bringing in another left-back is said to be a "priority" for Liverpool in this window.

Ait-Nouri has been at Wolves for four seasons and played 38 times during 2023/24. The Algerian, 23, is also said to be of interest to Manchester City and Chelsea.

Ait-Nouri is a client of superagent Jorge Mendes’ Gestifute agency, which also represents Liverpool stars Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota . Liverpool could therefore have an advantage via that relationship in any transfer race.

Robertson is under contract for two more years at Liverpool but having now turned 30, the Reds will have to keep one eye on a succession plan for the former Hull City defender. Joe Gomez , meanwhile, played much of last season at left-back but he might be required more in the center now Joel Matip has departed.

Ait-Nouri is valued at $38m (£30m/€35m) by Transfermarkt though it remains to be seen how much Wolves would demand for the Premier League-proven ace. A former France youth international, Ait-Nouri also has 13 senior caps for Algeria.

Liverpool.com says: Sooner rather than later, Liverpool will have to think about a long-term succession plan for Robertson. Signing another left-back this summer, though, would almost certainly require Tsimikas to move on. Having three senior left-backs (plus Gomez on top of that) would mean Slot's squad being too stacked in that one area of the field.
