LIVINGSTON COUNTY — It’s nearing time to explore the first semester calendar for local schools. For some, the first day is fast approaching.

    Start dates are:

The school calendar for Pinckney Community Schools is not yet finalized.

“I am hopeful we will be able to share it in the next few weeks,” said Pinckney Community Schools Superintendent Rick Todd.

Starting in mid-August allows the high school calendar at Hartland to be more aligned with college calendars, beneficial because many of the district’s students take dual enrollment courses, according to Hartland Community Schools Superintendent Chuck Hughes.

As with all school districts, the calendar is a negotiated item with teachers unions.

According to Hughes, the mid-August start also gives them “more learning time before state and advanced placement college classes in the spring.”

The calendar for most districts is characterized by a shorter-than-usual holiday break, beginning two days before Christmas (not including the preceding weekend).

Most districts have a break on Election Day, Nov. 5, and will have the latest possible break for Thanksgiving from Nov. 27-29.

Semester breaks and staff training days are included in the list below.
