Kevin Spacey Wins Folkestone Independent Film Award for ‘Control’ Voice Acting Role

Kevin Spacey has won an award for his turn in micro-budget thriller “Control.”

The actor, who does not appear on screen in the movie, has been awarded a gong for best thriller performance by the Folkestone Independent Film Awards.

“Control,” which was directed by Gene Fallaize, has also won for best thriller.

Other actors set for awards at the ceremony are Jessica Hynes, who has been honored for best drama performance for her role in Peter Blach’s “Seagull” while Robert Englund is set to get a gong for best voice performance for his role in “Under the Bed.”

The awards are set to take place in Folkestone, Kent on July 20. It’s unclear whether Spacey will attend.

The award is the latest honor for the “House of Cards” actor, whose career collapsed in 2017 after he was accused of historic sexual assault by Anthony Rapp. Earlier this month it was unveiled he was to be the recipient of a lifetime achievement award in Taormina, Sicily . That award, which is part of the Nations Awards and not related to the Taormina film festival, is set to be awarded on July 21 with Spacey slated to give a performance during the ceremony.

Last month a number of Hollywood heavy hitters, including Sharon Stone and Liam Neeson, also gave statements to The Telegraph newspaper calling for the actor’s return to the industry.

After Rapp’s allegations, Spacey was swiftly dropped from a number of high-profile film and TV projects and has since found little work, instead fighting a litany of legal battles, on both sides of the Atlantic, in the civil and criminal courts.

Last summer he was acquitted in a U.K. criminal court of nine charges of sexual assault against five men. One of the men is continuing his battle in the U.K. civil courts, with a trial tentatively schedule for next year. Spacey’s original accuser, Anthony Rapp, lost a $40 million sexual battery lawsuit against Spacey in 2022.

His first film after his acquittal was micro-budget thriller “Control,” in which Spacey plays a menacing figur e who manages to hijack a government official’s car in order to exact revenge. The part is entirely vocal and Spacey does not appear on screen.
