Beryl officially made landfall just before 4 AM in Texas with maximum winds of 80 mph.

Beryl is expected to make a northeast turn as it tracks closer to Arkansas. As Beryl moves closer to Arkansas, it is expected to weaken. By the time Beryl arrives here, it will be a tropical depression. That means the winds will be 30 mph with gusts as high as 40 mph.

While Beryl will have weakened by the time it arrives, it will still bring us a threat of heavy rain and severe weather. Heavy rain will be the main threat, however, isolated spin-up tornadoes will also be something to watch, especially tonight.

With the heavy rain expected, a Flood Watch is in effect for much of western and northern Arkansas.

Rainfall totals could reach 2-5 inches when everything is said and done. Localized flooding will be possible, especially in lower-lying areas and areas prone to flooding.

There is also a low and tornado threat. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted southwest Arkansas under a level 2 and 3 risk for severe storms. However, everyone will need to be weather aware, as the rest of the state is under a level 1 risk.

A Tornado Watch is in effect for portions of southwest Arkansas until 10 PM. Make sure you have a way to receive alerts tonight and into the overnight hours.

Current timing shows the heaviest rain moving into Arkansas this evening, and continuing overnight. This will also be when our tornado threat will be the highest.
