Members of Liverpool's new coaching staff reportedly have doubts regarding Luis Diaz as speculation regarding a possible sale continues. The winger is currently away with Colombia in the Copa America and is impressing whilst doing so.

The 27-year-old was one of the few mainstays in the Reds squad last season, with several key first-team stars plagued by injuries throughout the 2023/24 campaign. Mohamed Salah , Diogo Jota and Dominik Szoboszlai are just a few who endured lengthy spells on the sidelines, while Diaz featured in 37 of the 38 Premier League games that saw Liverpool finish in third place.

With eight goals and five assists to his name across these appearances, it was a solid return from the former Porto man. However, it now appears he is finding his best form on the international stage, with his latest outing against Panama in the quarter-finals embodying everything Liverpool fans want to see from him every week.

Diaz was instrumental in the first two goals of the 5-0 win and netted a stunning third goal for Colombia before half-time. The Liverpool ace was then replaced on the 65-minute mark with his work all but done.

To outsiders looking in after witnessing this performance, you'd assume Liverpool would be insane to contemplate a potential sale of the winger. However, with his contract running down and transfer rumours growing by the day, his future at Anfield is still up in the air.

According to The Athletic , there are question marks within the hierarchy at Liverpool as to whether he is the long-term solution for the club on the left wing. Despite heavy interest from Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, the Reds are yet to receive a concrete offer for the player.

The report goes on to state that although the club is currently against the idea of losing Diaz, if a significant offer did arrive then it would have to be considered. Former Everton man Anthony Gordon, who is a self-proclaimed Liverpool fan, has been touted as a potential replacement on the left, although Newcastle United's valuation of the player could hinder a potential move.

For now, the question remains for Liverpool , do the club choose to cash in on the 27-year-old as he approaches the prime years of his career, or do they allow his contract to continue trickling down in the hope talks eventually progress over a new deal? The Colombian star is currently tied down until 2027 but with every day this goes on, the transfer fee Liverpool could receive for the player decreases.

Liverpool.com says: Similar to the situation involving Mohamed Salah across recent seasons, weighing up whether to cash in on a player for a sizeable fee or keep them amongst the squad due to their output is a lengthy debate. Both decisions have their merits but if the club ultimately doesn't see Diaz as a long-term option, a sale might be the best option.
