The perfect choice. Today, Carly Pearce announced that her next single at country radio will be "truck on fire," which is an easy standout from her recent hummingbird project and an incredibly fun song that I've had on repeat since the album came out. It’s a brazen, sassy tune where she calls out a no good, cheatin’ man for running around town behind her back, ignorantly thinking she wouldn’t find out what he was up to. And unfortunately for him, Carly was ready to take matters into her own hands… She admits in the chorus that she found “a little gas in a small red can” and the joke is on him (and his truck):
“Birds been talking up on the wire Spilling your secrets all over this town You and her, back road, pulling all-nighters Did you really think that I wouldn’t find out? Oh, so I found a little gas in a small red can Oh, last strike match flying out of my hand Liar, liar, truck on fire Flames rolling off of your Goodyear tires Burn, burn, you’re gonna learn Never should’ve put your lips on her” The lyrics are clever and full of humor, the production and melody are really catchy, and it makes “truck on fire” super fun to listen and sing along with. Plus, who doesn’t love songs about gross men and setting their belongings on fire? A country music specialty I particularly appreciate… Carly says it was inspired by that ever-satisfying feeling of making your ex's life a living hell, no matter what form or fashion that may come in:
"No one wants to be cheated on, but everyone wants to seek revenge. I wrote this song for every girl who has gone through a similar situation and dreams of wreaking havoc on her ex. I got the opportunity to perform the song live while on tour with Tim McGraw and the way the fans have embraced it has blown me away every single time. I couldn’t think of a better song to make my next single." A perfect choice for a single that I think will do really well at radio, "truck on fire" has shades of Miranda Lambert's "Kerosene" and Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats," though those both came out in 2005 and 2006, respectively. All that to say, it's about time we get another good old fashioned, women scorned cheatin' song like this on the country radio airwaves, and I hope it goes straight to the top when it impacts at the end of this month on July 29th:
