Chelsea star takes parting shot at Mauricio Pochettino ahead of new Premier League season

Moises Caicedo has revealed that Mauricio Pochettino's approach at Chelsea was less about tactics and more about "run, run, run".

Caicedo made a big-money move to Stamford Bridge from Brighton a year ago, joining the Blues as they embarked on the Pochettino era. However, after just one season, the former Tottenham boss was shown the exit following a mixed campaign.

Despite showing signs of promise, Chelsea also suffered some disappointing results under Pochettino, leading to regular questioning of his methods. Caicedo admits it was a significant change moving from Brighton, where tactics were a key part of their game plan, to Chelsea, where work rate was emphasized.

Speaking to Radio La Red, he said: "At Brighton, it was all tactical, just with the ball; tactical, tactical, tactical. And at Chelsea, it was run, run, run and it was very difficult for me. With Chelsea, I always ran a bit more and with Brighton we almost always had the ball, with Chelsea it was a different football and we had to run more."

Pochettino's teams, particularly his Tottenham side, were known for covering a lot of ground during matches. His high-pressing style required players to clock up significant mileage, but this approach hasn't been well received by everyone.

The Ecuadorian ace Moises Caicedo opened up on his challenging adaptation to Stamford Bridge stardom, candidly sharing: "Since February my agent hired a person who reviews my matches and what I have to improve, how to position myself and mentally. It's helped take pressure off me because I was thinking more about 'they paid a lot of money for me I have to perform well'.

"I wasn't focused, not showing my level, after my agent hired that person, I started to improve and gain more confidence."

Caicedo, who was heavily linked with Liverpool last summer, ended the season in impressive form after a difficult start at Stamford Bridge. He scored a sensational halfway-line goal against Bournemouth, marking a standout moment in an otherwise low-key season tally of one goal in over 40 appearances.

As the Blues prepare to welcome yet another season under new management, with Enzo Maresca taking the reins, focus sharpens on whether Caicedo's late-season flourish is a sign of more to come.
