NiSource releases 2024 ESG Report

Utility company NiSource released its 2024 ESG report Monday, highlighting the company’s progress on reducing emissions and executing a biodiversity strategy.

The report, 2024 ESG Report – Creating Shared Value, showed the company’s commitment to diversifying its energy options through low-carbon fuels and renewable energy sources, as well as through evolving its gas and electric systems operations and structuring its offerings to provide customers with affordable, accessible and valuable services.

“Serving as the backbone of a thriving economy, utilities can meet the challenges of transitioning to cleaner energy in a balanced way that serves the interests of our communities while protecting the environment,” Lloyd Yates, NiSource president and CEO said. “We are proud to be one of the leaders in the industry finding innovative approaches to a sustainable and resilient energy future.”

The company reported it had committed an estimated $4 billion of cumulative generation transition investment toward its goal of net-zero GHG emissions by 2040. The company also said it had advanced economic inclusion initiatives and increased its supplier diversity to 19 percent, well on target to achieve its 25 percent diverse supplier spend by 2025. And the company said it had refreshed a quarter of its board over the last two years, adding cybersecurity, finance and industry experience.
