Despicable Me 4 off To Flying Start at the Box Office

It seems the loveable minions still have the "It" factor because it has been a huge opening week for the fourth instalment in the Despicable Me franchise.

Despicable Me 4 hit theaters on July 3 and already it has accumulated a hefty return of $122.6 million at the domestic box office, with a further $106.9 million worldwide without yet releasing in France, Iceland, Germany, China, Ireland, Japan, Italy or the United Kingdom.

It's unsurprising that Despicable Me 4 has had a $229.5 million combined start, as any time the minions show up to the box office, the sales deliver.

The first instalment to the franchise in 2010, Despicable Me , is the lowest-grossing in the series, making $543.2 million worldwide, but since then, none of the films have taken home less than $940 million.

Despicable Me 4 follows Gru and his family who add a new member to the gang. However, there's a twist: Gru Jr. appears intent on tormenting his dad.

Not only is Gru facing trouble at home, but a new nemesis, Maxime Le Mal, and his girlfriend, Valentina, force Gru and his family to go on the run, leading to chaos.

Pierre Coffin is back voicing those mischievous minions with Steve Carrell returning as Gru, alongside a host of talent including Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell, Sofía Vergara, Chris Renaud, Dana Gaier, Madison Skyy Polan, Miranda Cosgrove, Steve Coogan, John DiMaggio, Stephen Colbert, Chloe Fineman and Joey King.
