TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) – A man accused of impersonating a public servant was acquitted on May 9.

Judicial records show that DeMondre Montgomery was acquitted of the felony offense after a jury trial that started on May 6.

He was arrested for impersonating a public servant in December 2021, while employed at the Smith County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office. The office came under scrutiny with the arrests of three county employees in November 2021 when they were accused of stealing from a Tyler residence while on the job. Two of them were sentenced to probation , while the other was found not guilty at trial.

Montgomery’s arrest came a month later for a different incident in which he was reportedly accused of arresting a man while he did not have a peace officer certification. After a three-day trial, a Smith County jury acquitted him of the charges in the 241st District Court.
