BRIGHTON TWP. (WWJ) — Two people are dead after a motorcycle crash in Livingston County Sunday evening.

It happened around 6:40 p.m. on July 7 along Old US-23 near Loch Lomond Road, according to Michigan State Police.

A state trooper was in the area when he saw two motorcycles speeding on northbound Old US-23. It appeared the bikes were racing, according to MSP officials.

As the trooper went to turn around to pursue the motorcycles, he saw one of them crash into the passenger side door of a Dodge Caravan that was making a left turn from Loch Lomond onto southbound Old US-23, officials said.

A 20-year-old South Lyon man driving the bike, a 2006 Yamaha FZ6-S, was killed. Officials said he was wearing a helmet, but it was not strapped and it appeared to come off during the collision.

A 64-year-old Fenton woman who was a passenger in the van was also killed, MSP officials said. An 86-year-old Brighton woman driving the van was not injured.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Authorities did not say whether they’re looking for the other motorcycle rider, who kept driving away when the crash happened.
