Michael Douglas Shares Rare Video Looking ‘Barely Recognizable’ For July 4th: ‘This Guy Has Grown Old’

Michael Douglas took to Instagram with a rare clip of himself amid July 4th celebrations last week. The 79-year-old actor wore a gray shirt and left his tousled platinum silver hair out as he addressed his followers in the 32-second video, with a dreamy view of the ocean and greenery behind him.

He had a message for his followers in light of the Independence Day celebrations, asking them to think “country first” before any political party. He spoke about the upcoming elections, which have former President Donald Trump and the current Joe Biden as running mates.

Echoing what he said in the snap, Douglas’ caption read, “I just want to get a little head start on 4th of July, our Independence Day! 240-something years ago, this country was created. Independence was the key, wasn’t it? I wish all of us a Happy 4th…Have a great, great holiday!”

The longtime actor’s fans seemed more concerned about his appearance, with some commending his wise words. “Good Lord! I didn’t even recognize him!” someone gushed. “Wow this guy has grown old like this wow God bless this man,” another added.

Aging gracefully

Although Douglas arguably looks incredible for someone turning 80 this fall, he received some criticism from a few users in his comments who thought he had “too many wrinkles” and struggled to speak. He has previously shared his thoughts on aging, noting that he is grateful to have lived so long and that his family and health are in check.

He was diagnosed with oral cancer after experiencing persistent sore throat in 2010, which led to seeking medical help that uncovered a tumor behind his tongue. Thankfully, he began treatments early enough and was soon declared cancer-free. He has since supported the Oral Cancer Foundation (OCF) in its vision to create awareness about the disease.
