I'm a very stereotypical fall-season fanatic, and I spend my summers pining for the temperatures to start dropping and the leaves to start changing. I know, I'm basic, but I just don't do well with the heat! Besides, fall's the season with my favorite holiday: Halloween.

Though we've got several months to go, I'm already planning out this year's costume - and thanks to TikToks like this one, I'm getting the jumpstart on seasonal decor, too. This adorable "floating pumpkin" trick from DIY mastermind Emily Huxford is perfect for adding some fall fun to your home, especially when you want to spice up your Samhain celebrations!

Replying to @Brooke Gonzales here is how I made my floating pumpkins šŸŽƒ The faux carvable pumpkins I used are from Target but you can get them from Joannā€™s or Michaelā€™s too. I plotted this for almost a year and was able to snag a bunch secondhand off FBMP the prior year after Halloween in anticipation for this project šŸ™ŒšŸ¼ I drew fun jackā€™oā€™lantern faces with a sharpie and carved the faces out with a hot knife. The hot knife is KEY! Carving them without it would have been an ordeal. I also drilled a very small hole through the stem so I could string clear fishing wire through. I hung the fishing wire on clear command hooks on the ceiling. Make sure when you hang them they are far enough off the wall that they donā€™t constantly bump into the wall behind them. Also hang them are varying lengths and depths, it helps with the overall look! I put a small battery operated LED light inside each pumpkin. The lights I used change colors and are remote controlled. I turned them on/off every evening with the remote. I think I made 16 of them! I stored them in a box in the basement after Halloween and Iā€™m soo excited to pull them out again this year. Please note that this is not my original idea! As content creators its so important to give credit where it is due. Iā€™ve seen these floating around the internet for a few years now. I think they were most popularized by @McKenna Barry and I see hers more often than anyone elseā€™s. #halloweendecor #halloweendiy

This is the perfect combo of spooky and sweet. Why buy pre-made autumn decor when you can personalize it yourself with this easily customizable crafting project? Emily (aka @happilyhuxford ) credits crafter McKenna Barry for the original "floating pumpkins" idea, but shows us how she puts her own fun little spin on the project!

    Gathering Supplies

As with any DIY crafting project, step one is gathering supplies, the key material here being the carvable faux pumpkins. Emily, who planned in advance, writes that she got a bunch of these off of Facebook Marketplace right after Halloween, but she says you can also pick them up in places like Joann's, Michaels, or Target, too (in her experience, Target has them for the cheapest). You'll also need LED tea lights, fishing wire, Command hooks (ideally clear ones), and a Sharpie for tracing your designs.

As for tools, there's only one thing Emily absolutely insists is a "must-have": a hot knife, like those typically used for woodburning crafts . Without it, she claims that carving out the Jack-o-lantern faces would have been "an ordeal." Though Emily didn't recommend a particular brand here, the one she has looks a lot like the Walnut Hollow Professional Hot Knife , which Joann's has online for $30.99.

    Carving Your Crafty Pumpkins

Once you've got everything you need, putting your project together is simple. Emily drew the Jack-o-lantern faces on her faux pumpkins, then used the hot knife to cleanly cut through the thick foam. If you've ever carved a Jack-o-lantern before, this part's a no-brainer. And if there's any marker left on the surface, don't worry: commenter @awholelottarosiebird pointed out that a little isopropyl alcohol will wipe up any excess.

Now, all she needed to do was drill a small hole through the pumpkins' stems and feed the fishing wire through. She hung them all on clear Command hooks attached to her ceiling, and voila, her hauntingly wholesome Halloween decor was complete! In the comments, she also added that she looped the string and hooked the pumpkins on the loop rather than tying the end of the string to the hook. This prevented the pumpkins from spinning 360 degrees to ensure that they all faced forward!

To finish off the Jack-o-lantern look (and cast some seriously spooky shadows on her ceiling), Emily illuminated her floating pumpkins with LED tea lights that could switch on/off or change colors via a remote control. However, other commenters suggested pairing these with floating candles to amp up the magical illusion, along with a bunch of other cute suggestions! There are endless ways you could customize this cute craft to make it your own; Emily just demonstrated her version. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a lot of faux carvable pumpkins to wrangle up before October...
