The Florida Department of Education's most recent state assessment results show that Okaloosa and Walton County School Districts secured Top 10 rankings in the 2024 Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) and End of Course exams.

Each year, students must take statewide assessments in English language arts (ELA) grades 3-10; mathematics grades 3-8; and end of course exams in algebra, geometry, biology, civics and U.S. history.

For Okaloosa County, the district excelled in multiple areas, ranking in the Top 6 statewide for 5th-, 7th- and 8th-grade reading, 7th- and 8th-grade mathematics and 8th-grade science. Okaloosa students ranked 3rd in math, 4th in science and 6th in ELA at the middle school level.

As a whole, Okaloosa County students placed 10th out of Florida's 67 counties.

In a press release provided by the Okaloosa County School District, Superintendent Marcus Chambers congratulated students, teachers, staff and administrators.

"Our students and schools have overcome obstacles, met challenges head-on, and persevered to achieve academic success and for that, I am extremely proud," stated Chambers. "Consistently ranking as one of the top school districts in the state is a source of pride for our schools and our community. With that said, there is work to be done and plans are already in place to address areas where room for improvement exists at the school and district levels.”

Overall, the Walton County School District ranked among the Top 10 in 15 of 21 subject matters.
