It's well-known that Warner Bros. had a tough road leading up to the first feature film based on DC's Justice League, with the film polarizing audiences with its original theatrical cut. The restored director's cut from Zack Snyder showed more of what the original plan for the franchise was, with one scene set in the post-apocalyptic future that never came to be.
Will Beal, who got a story credit on Zack Snyder's Justice League, has now opened up about an early version of the film, which focused more on the far future of the DCEU. In an interview with The Wrap , Beal talked more about an early draft of the film, highlighting the differences between it and the finished version.
Warner Bros&period
“The biggest difference with mine, I think, was that much of the second act was that little sort of coda that was on the Snyder cut, where it’s this post-apocalyptic sort of dream sequence or flash forward, and there’s good guys and bad guys, they’re forced to team up," said Beal. "Much of my second act was taken up with that.”
Of course, Snyder himself has revealed what the original plans were for the franchise, with Justice League 2 and 3 seeing the heroes undo Darkseid's invasion from the future. In those plans, Ben Affleck's Batman would lead a new team of heroes in a wasteland under the watch of a mind-controlled Superman.
The franchise's ending would see the Flash traveling back in time to warn Bruce of Darkseid's attack, with various events playing out differently in the altered timeline.
"My version of it owed a lot to Back to the Future II. I’m proud of the script that I wrote and I’m happy that it helped. I feel like I did my job."
