    What to know for the upcoming August Elections in East TN

    KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The 2024 State and Federal Primary and State and County General Elections are set for August 1 in Tennessee.

    Early voting begins on Friday, July 12, and runs through Saturday, July 27. The final day to request an absentee ballot is July 25. Absentee ballot requests can be made by contacting your local county election commission office and voters are encouraged to use the absentee ballot request form to make sure all required information is provided.

    Where to Vote

    To vote, you must be a registered voter. Check your status here . While early voting can take place at places other than local precincts, Election Day ballots can only be cast at your designated polling location.  Be sure to government-issued photo ID with you when voting.

    Valid IDs

    • Tennessee driver’s license with your photo
    • United States Passport
    • Photo ID issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security
    • Photo ID issued by the federal or Tennessee state government
    • United States Military photo ID
    • Tennessee handgun carry permit with your photo

    IDs not accepted

    • Student ID
    • Library Card
    • City or county ID
    • Out-of-state photo ID

    What’s on the ballot

    Primary elections will be held for U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, even-numbered districts for the Tennessee Senate, and Tennessee House of Representatives. General elections for vacant state judicial offices, applicable county offices and school board primaries will also be held.

    Voters will also be asked two judicial retention questions. Voters can choose to retain or replace Tennessee Supreme Court Judge Dwight Tarwater and Court of Criminal Appeals- Western Division Judge Matthew J. Wilson.
