It’s that time of year, and all you hobby gardeners know what I’m talking about… growing season! The time to get our hands in the soil , feet on top of the mulch, and mind on the plants. It's finally that time of year, spring has well come and gone and gardens are in full force . Taking over raised beds and in-ground rows, are lush green plants just starting to emerge their blooms and working towards flowering.

It's quite easy to create a blooming successful garden but trying to prevent pests or treat pests once they arrive is one of the hardest. The list of pests that can wreak havoc on garden plants is quite long, and all the methods for treating said pests are even longer. There isn’t one product that treats all sorts of pest control , but one gardener let us in on her little secret for a DIY project that protects garden plants from becoming victim to some of the garden's hardest-to-manage plant-eating pests, and the best part… it’s made from Dollar Tree supplies! Check it out!

How To Use Diatomaceous Earth for Pest Control

This fine white powder is made from fossilized remains of tiny aquatic organisms called diatoms, which when get on the skin of insects dries them out instantly, killing them, which makes for quite the protective coating on plants!

Don’t go overboard but dust this powder on the tops and stems of your plants down to the base to give an even protective coating. Pro tip, use a shifter or fine mesh strainer to apply it!

Apply once it starts to wash away or lighten up, or of course if you see and infestation!
