PORT HURON — Firefighters remain at the scene of a large fire in the city's industrial park as of 2:30 p.m. Monday, with the expectation of being there overnight, according to a press release.
"Excavation equipment is on site and has been engaged in selective demolition, in order to assist fire crews with final extinguishment. Substantial pockets of smoldering fire exist due to burning plastic combustibles in depth, as well as collapsed portions of roof decking," Port Huron Fire Chief Corey Nicholson said in the release.
Rescue crews first responded to the fire at 2210 Beard St. about 11 a.m. Sunday.

The following agencies are currently assisting the Port Huron Fire Department on scene:
- Port Huron Township Fire Department
- St. Clair Fire Department
- Tri-Hospital EMS
- Port Huron Police Department
- Port Huron DPW, Utilities, and Wastewater
- St. Clair County Homeland Security and Emergency Management
- U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
"The U.S. EPA is on scene and monitoring eight locations for air quality issues. At this time, no air quality readings have been reported that constitute a hazard. Residents with respiratory issues are encouraged to close their windows and limit outdoor activities if conditions warrant. Occasional increases in smoke conditions may develop until final overhaul is complete," Nicholson said.
"Fire suppression efforts will continue throughout the day and into the nighttime hours. This fire is currently under investigation by the Port Huron Fire Marshal’s Office."
