Improvements Coming to Buice Avenue in Southwest Cherokee

Improvements are coming to Buice Avenue off Bells Ferry Road through an agreement between Cherokee County and a developer.

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted July 2 to approve a development agreement with Lynwood Development Group for the Buice Avenue roadway improvement project.

The Buice Lake mixed-use development, currently under construction along Bells Ferry Road near Acworth, is accessed by Buice Avenue, which was previously known as West Pine Ridge Drive.

The development will feature a mix of single-family residential, multifamily residential, townhomes and some commercial, according to the county. Some phases of the development have already been approved.

Cherokee County considers Buice Avenue a substandard roadway, according to county documents, and the improvements will enhance the road from its intersection with Bells Ferry Road to the start of Buice Lake.

The project consists of a modified alignment providing 10-foot 6-inch travel lanes, curb and gutter, drainage facilities, striping and accessibility ramps at the Bells Ferry Road intersection.

The county will be administering the project, and the developer will reimburse the county for a portion of construction costs.

The expected cost to the county is about $342,507.90. The developer’s cost is about $101,000.

The developer funded the design services for the project and no utility relocation costs are anticipated. A temporary construction easement is required to construct the project and the easement was donated to the county by the adjacent property owner, Newar Investment, LLC, county documents show.

Construction is expected to begin this month. The project is expected to take about 90 days to complete.
