"Not Dunne Yet": LSU Gymnast Olivia Dunne Returns for Final Season

    2024-07-09

LSU star gymnast Olivia Dunne cleverly announced via social media that she is "Not Dunne Yet" and will be returning for her fifth and final season with the Tigers. Dunne will join her teammates Haleigh Bryant, Sierra Ballard, Chase Brock and Alyona Shchennikova, all who are also set to return for their final season next year.

Dunne said that her decision ultimately came down to the fact that she feels like she has more to give to the sport, both on and off the competition floor.

“This past year I found a renewed love of the sport. I had trained a lot in the off season, so I felt really strong and healthy from the start and ready to contribute. I really enjoyed the dynamic of the team this year and it all came together well. Winning the national championships was a great team accomplishment, but I feel like I have more to give as an individual competitor.”

    Dunne said via Instagram.com:

    Dear LSU,

These past four years have changed my life. There’s something about putting on a purple and gold leotard. There’s something about competing in front of 13,000 screaming Tiger fans. There’s something about being pushed by your coaches todo your very best. And there’s something about being part of a team that made school history. No matter how many opportunities come my way off the mat, there’s just something about LSU. And that’s why I’m here to say, I’m not Dunne yet.

    Here’s to Year Five, baby."

During the 2023–24 season, Dunne competed eight routines on floor exercise, matching her career-high of 9.9 twice. At the SEC Championship, she helped the Tigers win their 5th team title, competing on the uneven bars twice.

The Tigers also won their first NCAA Championship in program history this year.
