EXCLUSIVE: Prime Video has handed Darwin detective duo Dulcie Collins and Eddie Redcliffe another case.

We can reveal the streamer has greenlit a second season of Deadloch , the Australian crime comedy that was a breakout hit for Amazon last year, with leads Kate Box and Madeleine Sami returning.

Production on a six-part season 2 will begin later this year and the show releases globally. Prime Video is making the show with Guesswork Television and OK Great Productions, with the support of Screen Queensland and Screen Territory. Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan return as co-creators.

Season 2 will see Detectives Collins (Box) and Redcliffe (Sami) heading to the Top End in Australia’s Northern Territory. They are initially in Darwin investigating the death of Redcliffe’s former policing partner Bushy, when the bodies of two Top End icons are discovered in a remote town, flinging open a new “sweatier, stickier” investigation. Also reprising their season 1 roles are Nina Oyama and Alicia Gardiner.

“We are thrilled that Deadloch will be returning for a second season to give our global Prime Video customers another dose of its unique blend of Australian humour and gripping mystery, this time set against the visually stunning Northern Territory landscape,” said Sarah Christie, Senior Development Executive, Amazon MGM Studios. “The success of the first season, which has become a critical darling and cultivated a passionate fanbase, is a testament to the brilliant creative force of Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan.

“We are so excited to head to the Top End for a sticky, sweaty and filthy Season Two,” said McCartney and McLennan, who are creators, writers and executive producers and lead OK Great Productions. “Both of us are thrilled to be teaming up again with comedy angels Kate Box, Madeleine Sami, Nina Oyama and Alicia Gardiner and we can’t wait to work with a new bunch of cast members and some massive fucking crocodiles.”

“Once again, Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video have given us the opportunity to take the Kates’ story to every corner of the planet and our new partners Screen Territory and Screen Queensland have enabled us to leave the puffers behind and head north for the next installment,” added Kevin Whyte and Tanya Phegan from Guesswork. “We can’t wait to get back on location with this extraordinary team.”

McCartney and McLennan exec produce alongside Whyte and Phegan. Andy Walker is the producer and Beck Cole and Gracie Otto are the directors. Finance assistance comes through Screen Territory and supported by Queensland Government through Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy.

Guesswork is behind the likes of Hannah Gadsby: Nanette , Merman co-production Frayed and live standup comedy specials for Paramount+, Amazon Prime Video and Stan. It previously produced The Katering Show , a web series from McCartney and McLennan about an intolerable foodie and her food intolerant friend. The Kates also created comedy Bleak , which became a pilot for Australian national broadcaster the ABC, and satirical comedy Get Krack!n for the ABC and NBC SVOD service Seeso.

Since 2019, Prime Video has commissioned 30 originals in Australia, including The Test seasons 1-3, Making Their Mark , LOL: Last One Laughing Australia with Rebel Wilson, Back to the Rafters and Luxe Listings Sydney seasons 1-3. Upcoming productions include a local remake of The Office , The Narrow Road to the Deep North and Top End Bub , a TV series spin-off of the 2019 film Top End Wedding .
