PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Every public high school in Rhode Island is eligible to apply for a grant aimed at helping more students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) is offering the FAFSA Support Ambassador grant though the Educational Credit Management Corporation.

The $2,500 grants will allow schools to train a member of their staff on providing FAFSA ID set up and Alternative Aid support. The grants are particularly aimed at helping multilingual and economically disadvantaged students.

“The FAFSA Support Ambassador grant program empowers schools to provide important application assistance during the summer months, helping students navigate the financial aid process and pave the way for their success in higher education,” RIDE Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green said.

The FAFSA is still available to students seeking aid for the 2024-2025 school year. RIDE says about 55% of the class of 2024 have completed their applications. That percentage is above the national average of 45%, but the state is aiming for a 70% completion rate before fall term starts.
