LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — Nine people were displaced by an early morning fire in the central Las Vegas valley, according to the Clark County Fire Department.
At around 4:50 a.m. on Monday, July 8, firefighters with the CCFD responded to a residence in the 1900 block of Westwind Drive after reports of a structure fire.
Fire department units arrived within six minutes of the initial call and found an “advanced” fire at the back of the home that was spreading to the rest of the home. Crews called reinforcements and began using hoses for fire control.
The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada said the fire spread to two adjacent homes in the 5600 block of El Parque Avenue.
CCFD said the fire is believed to have started outside the residence and then spread to the home. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
According to CCFD, one bystander was treated for a medical episode, but did not need to be taken to a hospital. No other injuries were reported.
Nine adults were displaced, the CCFD said. The Red Cross said at least 10 people were displaced, and seven residents who were affected received assistance from the Red Cross. Red Cross said one resident declined assistance and two others were out of town.
Red Cross assisted those residents by ensuring they had access to essential items such as clothing and food, replacements of prescription medicines, and a safe place to stay.
CCFD said 12 fire engines, two trucks, three rescues, three battalion chiefs and a few support resources including 68 personnel were used in this incident. CCFD was assisted by Las Vegas Fire and Rescue.
