All American: Homecoming Reveals Simone’s Big Decision (and Much More) in Final Season Premiere

All American: Homecoming fans have waited more than a year for the outcome of Simone Hicks’ love triangle — but it only took one hour for Simone’s romance with Damon Sims to flame out.
The All American spinoff returned for its third — and, sadly, final — season on Monday night, leaping forward in time by one year and three months, just as the mothership series did. So, if you were Team Damon heading into Season 3, there’s some comfort in knowing that not only did Simone choose him over Lando, but she and Damon did get to enjoy more than a year of romantic bliss before things ended.
But at the start of Monday’s episode, Bringston University prez Amara learned that the school would undergo a rebrand of sorts, focusing more on elite academics than elite athletics. To that end, two sports programs would be getting cut entirely — and while tennis survived, baseball didn’t. All hope of a pro baseball career wasn’t lost for Damon, though: Coach Marcus helped him score a spot on a professional private club team, which would allow the MLB to buy out his contract in a year when he’s league-eligible. Upside? The baseball dream lives! Downside? This club team is in the Dominican Republic.
For Simone, the long distance wasn’t an issue, but she didn’t feel right asking Damon to stay invested in a romantic relationship when he has actual pro baseball to focus on. So, in a bittersweet breakup scene, Simone and Damon decided to part ways so he could stay locked in on his career, though they both acknowledged that they could rekindle things in the future. That said, Peyton Alex Smith has been bumped down to recurring status for Season 3, while Martin Bobb-Semple (aka Lando) is now a series regular , so… make of that what you will when it comes to Simone’s love life.
Speaking of “bumped down to recurring status,” that’s also the case for Kelly Jenrette, who plays Amara. Monday’s premiere explained Amara’s imminent absence by giving her a part-time commitment in Washington, D.C., where she’ll serve on the vice president’s HBCU committee while retaining her gig as Bringston’s president.
