MINOT, N.D. ( KXNET ) — This year, North Dakota experienced some hail damage and winter wheat was doing well.

However, we will look at how this hail could’ve ruined some of the most recent yields.

Getting in the fields, during the winter, for spraying and applications was a challenge due to high soil moisture.

But, Soil Health Specialist Chandler Gruener, said that soil moisture from the wheat is going to result in good yields.

He said the summer crops, canola, corn, and soybeans are doing well.

When the hail landed in the state this June, it didn’t cause a lot of loss, meaning the plants will be able to recover.

In different areas across the state temperature and moisture varied.

“Now we are going into the warmer area it should result in some good yields because we have a lot of soil moisture in the soil. The plants are ready to go and now we are going to start heating up and we are going to get them growing degree units and that’s what plants need. They need more growing degree units to get optimal yields,” said Chandler Gruener the soil health specialist at the NDSU North Central Research Extension Center.

Gruener also said that the NDSU North Central Research Extension will be holding their annual field day next Wednesday covering crops, weed control, and more.
