It’s time for another round of WWE RAW results, for July 8, 2024. This time, father and son Mysterio clash again in our main event.

    Quick Results

    • Jey Uso defeats Chad Gable, with a little help from the Wyatt Sicks. Sort of. Toward the tail end, the lights and sounds hit, the ring filled with fog and Gable lost his mind. Uso took advantage of the distraction to spear and pin Gable.
    • Bronson Reed took care of Pete Dunne. Dunne looked better than you’d expect against Big Bronson Reed, but Reed won out. Post-match, Reed appeared set to destroy the Bruiserweight. Instead, Sheamus made the save. That surely sets up a match that Reed and the Irish Superstar were discussing prior to the action. Interestingly, Dunne didn’t give his former running mate a warm thank you for the save, remembering how the Brutes ended and holding a grudge.
    • JD McDonagh, Carlito and Finn Balor defeat Awesome Truth and Braun Strowman. The faces got some nice action in, with Truth and Miz doing Cena tribute moves. Strowman got drawn out of the ringside area, Truth got distracted and the heels took the win.
    • Damage CTRL defeat Lyra Valkyria, Carter and Chance. Post-match, Shayna Baszler, Zoey Stark and Sonya Deville come out of the crowd and destroyed Damage CTRL. This is interesting for many reasons. First, it seems heels attacked heels, so I don’t quite know how that plays out. Neither side seems likeable at the moment. For another, for weeks on end, Stark and Baszler rebuffed Sonya’s interest-so what changed? I am sure we will find out soon enough.
    • Ilya Dragunov gets a DQ win over Bron Breakker, who went off on the mad Russian and again on Sami Zayn.
    • Dominik Mysterio and Liv Morgan defeat Rey Mysterio and Zelina Vega. The celebration afterward was cut short thanks to a returning Rhea Ripley. Mami’s arrival sent Liv running for the exit, and left Dom quite nervous.

    Best Match of the night:

Not a match for me, not a knock on any of them.

This one was, hands down, the opening segment of RAW featuring Punk and Rollins. It was articulated well, both men said their sides. The crowd ate it up, and since both men are more on the babyface side of things, it was a bit unclear which way fans would go. Punk had his points, Seth had his own. At the end, Rollins said actions have consequences and he owed Punk some. CM Punk has another person gunning for him, and it sets things up down the road. Excellent from both sides.

    Crowd Chants of the Night:

Loads. Canadian crowds are fun. Let’s get them a WrestleMania soon, shall we? RAW and SmackDown are fine, but imagine the biggest PLE of the year?

    Star of the Night

CM Punk and Seth Rollins get a lot of credit here. So too for Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley. Honestly, a lot of good work all around.

    Spot of the Night:

How’s this for a unique one. Gable comes at Adam Pearce following the airing of the latest (awesome) Wyatt Sicks vignette. Chad says Adam isn’t handling it. Pearce said “did you ever stop and wonder what you did that makes them want to come after you”. Gable storms off, Pearce opens the door to his office, and sitting there is Bo Dallas.

Thoughts: I feel an Uncle Howdy versus Chad Gable SummerSlam match could be fun. Or, a bigger tag if Gable recruits the Creed Brothers.

And, based on tonight’s video, the reason seems clear. Howdy assembled the group because they were rejects, cast off by someone or some group. And what did Gable basically just do with Otis, Tozawa and Maxxine? Seems like an easy first target.

Holy Sh** Moment of the Night:

That out of nowhere spear by Breakker on Sami qualifies. It sure sounded like Bron was about to show a measure of respect and maturity and instead, he snapped again.

    Botch of the night:

Strowman went to fling one of Judgement Day around, but kind of missed. Pat called it a shoulder tackle into a slam, but he was being kind.

    LOL Moment of the night:

Has to be this one. Like, as funny as the high school jokes were with Dom and Liv and Judgement Day, this one took it for me on RAW.

    Noteworthy Moment:

Priest and Rollins shared a moment. It certainly foretells of Priest’s eventual and likely face turn, as he appreciated Rollins being a man of his word, but said after Gunther and SummerSlam, he and Seth would fight again. That undoes what happened at Money In The Bank, where Rollins losing meant he couldn’t fight Priest for the title again.

Also of note, following that chat, Priest got on his phone to talk to someone. Later after Dom and Liv did their thing, he promised that young Dom was going to get a surprise soon enough. Of course, a returning Rhea Ripley would do that trick.

Pearce and Punk had an interesting exchange. Punk wants Drew, but Pearce said Punk starts fights and stirs stuff up, and as such he told Punk to stay home next week or else he’d lose any match with Drew and could kiss title aspirations good-bye.

    Overall lowlights:

Not a thing, outside of maybe wanting another minute or two for the Rhea end of RAW fun.

    Overall highlights:

From open to close this RAW was on fire. Hot crowd helps, as always, but this was a superb show. Great opening segment, first by Punk solo and then Punk and Rollins going at it on the mic. Damian Priest does the work, showing he is not a total heel, but still trying to keep Judgement Day going. Rhea returning will make things interesting.

Wow, just wow. Strong show, and I know stuff will get left out. Like, pick your segment, it’s hard to dislike any of them. Honestly, a trio emerging like Deville’s new trio? That could have been the story of the show, except, this RAW was loaded. The Final Testament declaring that the New Day was dead, with Xavier revealing on X that he’s flying solo for a while without Kofi? Interesting too. Will he get help, or does Kingston return and snap on Woods instead of Kross. Loads of feuds set up for SummerSlam, and it’s just Monday!
