Shaboozey Hits No. 1 On Billboard Hot 100 With ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ While Matching This Historic Feat Set By Beyoncé

Shaboozey ‘s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” track has skyrocketed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart while also remaining atop the Hot Country Songs chart for the fourth week.

As Billboard reports, with the release of his hit track, Shaboozey has become the first Black man to stand atop both charts. The 29-year-old star also becomes the second Black artist overall to achieve the historic feat. Shaboozey follows in the footsteps of Beyoncé, who became the first to Black artist to top both charts when she released “Texas Hold ‘Em.”

“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” is featured in Shaboozey’s studio album Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going. The project debuted at No. 5 high on the Billboard 200 in June, then rose to No. 2 on Top Country Albums. Shaboozey, who has been releasing songs for a decade, spoke to Billboard about the breakout year he’s having.

“We were pretty prepared for this moment,” the country star told Billboard.

In an interview he did with Blavity in April, Shaboozey said he’s fine with being different from the typical country singer.

“I’ve always been somebody who wants to show people that it’s other people that look like you in other genres and other spaces,” he told Blavity.

The Virginia native also spoke about his major influences in music, naming various types of artists such as Ja Rule, Jennifer Lopez and Kenny Rogers. Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song” is inspired by J-Kwon’s 2004 hit song, “Tipsy.”

“I have a lot of ideas. I’ve always been a fan of different artists and different genres of music of people who don’t look like me,” Shaboozey told Blavity. “If you look at artists like Pharrell, who’s eclectic as hell, he got into so many different pockets. I think I’m the same. I’m just super creative. Super artistic.”
