When is the first day for Knox County Schools? Here's what to know

Summer seems to have just started but back to school prep is coming in Knoxville and East Tennessee.

School starts early here compared to many other places in the country.

Mark your calendars for the following Knox County Schools 2024-25 start dates:

Aug. 8 (Thursday): First day for Knox County Schools students. This is a half day.

Aug. 14 (Wednesday): First early release day for students

Sept. 2 (Monday): Labor day holiday

When do East Tennessee school districts go back?

Other communities are ready to head back to school as well. Some start as early as the end of July! Here are the back to school dates for neighboring counties.

• Anderson County Schools: Staggered start from Monday, Aug. 5. Regular schedule resumes from Thursday, Aug. 8.
• Blount County Schools: Wednesday, July 31
• Grainger County Schools: Monday, Aug. 5
• Jefferson County Schools: Tuesday, Aug. 6
• Loudon County Schools: Monday, Aug. 5
• Oak Ridge Schools: Monday, July 22.
• Roane County Schools: Friday, Aug. 2
• Sevier County Schools: Thursday, Aug. 8
• Union County Schools: Monday, Aug. 12
