Pinpoint Weather: Heat Advisory in effect Tuesday

ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) — Tuesday will be the hottest day of the week in Southwest and Central Virginia.

It will be a warm and muggy start to the day with morning temperatures in the upper 60s and 70s. A mix of sun and clouds will be overhead with temperatures rising into the lower and middle 90s by the afternoon.

A Heat Advisory will go into effect from noon until 8 p.m. Tuesday for areas east of the Blue Ridge. The heat and high humidity will result in heat index values between 105 to 108.

When dealing with hot weather, here are some safety tips to keep in mind:

• If you plan on working or exercising outside, try to do so during the morning or evening when temperatures aren’t as hot
• Take frequent breaks when working outside
• Drink plenty of water
• Stay in the shade when you can
• Consider wearing light-colored, loose-fitting clothes

Remnants of Beryl will merge with an approaching storm system before moving into the Ohio Valley for the middle of the week. For Wednesday, morning temperatures will start in the warm 70s before reaching the 80s and lower 90s by the afternoon. Scattered showers and storms are possible, especially in the afternoon and evening. Areas of heavy rainfall may occur.

Isolated showers and storms are possible on Thursday afternoon, but the rain will be very hit or miss. It will be slightly cooler with afternoon highs in the 80s and lower 90s. Friday will be even cooler with highs in the 80s. However, scattered showers and storms are possible during the day.

Hotter conditions return for the weekend. Expect a mix of sun and clouds for Saturday and Sunday with high temperatures in the upper 80s and 90s. Although rain chances are low, a few showers and storms may pop up during the heat of the day.
