MARSHALL COUNCIL GRANTS STREET CLOSURES FOR PROPOSED PRIDE FEST

The Marshall City Council voted 4-3 last week in favor of a set of street closures around the courthouse in September for an inaugural pride fest.

The event, sponsored by Missouri Rainbow Rights, is planned for Sept. 7th from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mayor Vince Lutterbie says discussion centered on what streets the event would need, given that much of it has yet to be planned and several projects underway around the square.

Organizers told council members that they had heard interest from 30 vendors, but were waiting until securing the street closures before booking them or any live bands. After discussion, the council agreed to a closure of the inside of the square, as well as Court Street, during the event.

Council members Dan Brandt, Charles Guthrey, Jim Papreck and Nathan Swisher voted in favor of the street closures, while Steve Cook, Drew Green and Craig Thompson voted against.  John Allen Jr was absent from last week’s meeting.

Also at last week’s meeting, Marshall City Council approved the appointment of Cook to the Board of Building Code Enforcement, with Sheldon Kerksick as an alternate. Brett Klaus and Steve Washington were reappointed to the library board, with David Riley joining them. Leslie Lewis will fill an unexpired one-year term on the Park Board.
