Saginaw County man wins $4 million on Michigan Lottery instant ticket

"We just won $4 million!"

That's what a Saginaw County man shouted when he scratched off a Michigan Lottery instant ticket at a gas station after receiving a confusing message on a lottery scanner, according to the Michigan Lottery.

The 52-year-old man, who chose to remain anonymous, purchased two $4,000,000 Ultimate instant tickets at a convenience store, scratched the barcodes and scanned the tickets in the store.

When he scanned the first ticket, he received a message that instructed him to file a claim. He scanned the ticket again and got the same message, making him think the scanner was broken. He then scanned the second ticket and it displayed a message he expected to see, confusing him.

Eventually, he went to his car to scratch the ticket.

"I went out to my car to pump gas and I scratched the ticket while I was waiting. It’s hard to describe the feeling when I saw the winning amount," he told the MIchigan Lottery. "I got in the car and yelled: 'We just won $4 million!'"

The man purchased the $30 ticket at the Fastlane convenience story at 3540 State St. in Saginaw.

He recently claimed his prize and opted to receive it as a one-time lump sum payment of about $2.7 million.

He plans to use the money to purchase land and invest.

The $4,000,000 Ultimate game has three top prizes of $4 million. Two still remain unclaimed.
