PROVIDENCE – The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for northern Rhode Island with the heat index, a combination of temperature and humidity, expected to climb as high as 99 degrees.

The advisory, which also includes parts of Connecticut and Massachusetts, will continue until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

"Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses," the weather service says in its advisory. "Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors."
