New park to bring splash area, playground and skatepark to Henrico’s Sandston area

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Henrico residents looking to enjoy some fun in the sun this summer will be able to do so at a new park in the county’s Sandston area, which features a splash park, playground, skate park and event lawn.

According to Henrico County Recreation and Parks’ Facebook page , Taylor Farm Park offers a splash park and play stream that winds through the playground. Visitors can also cool off with mist mounds beside the restroom building.

In addition, the park has a 17,000-square-foot skate park and a 12,000-square-foot pump track and flow bowl for cyclists, skateboarders, rollerskaters, rollerbladers and scooter riders.

Taylor Farm also has playground areas that feature a carousel, musical instruments, a rope net for climbing, treehouses, slides and towers. Other equipment includes zip lines and swings.

The park also has an event lawn to allow for outdoor showings of movies and other activities and programs.

A memorial area at the park honors public safety workers and military service members.

A series of the following grand opening events will be held from Tuesday, July 16 through Saturday, July 20:

• Tuesday, July 16: Festivities on Tuesday are expected to be released by the county on Monday, July 9.
• Wednesday, July 17: For Recreation and Parks Day, a variety of activities will be led, including fitness demos, bottle rocket launches, animal chats, a scavenger hunt and crafts.
• Thursday, July 18: Partners from Henrico County Division of Fire , Henrico County Police , Henrico County Public Library , and YMCA of Greater Richmond will join in for festivities throughout the day. Food trucks will be available.
• Friday, July 19: The park will host its first movie showing on its event lawn at 8:30 p.m., though the movie has not yet been announced. The county did, however, give the following clue: “we’ve selected a film about criMe-fighting aNimals who ride skaTeboards.”
• Saturday, July 20: The grand opening celebrations will conclude with a concert from 6 to 8 p.m. Before that, the park will celebrate World BMX Day at its newest all-wheel park from 3 to 6 p.m. A family-friendly musical act will perform as well.
