UPDATES: Lake Fire grows to 28,987 acres

UPDATE (5:56 a.m.) - Holding steady at 16 percent containment, the Lake Fire has grown to 28,987 acres. An evacuation warning has also been made for the area starting at the south end of Cachuma Creek, northeast of Santa Cruz Creek to Santa Cruz Peak, west through Grand Spring, and to the northern part of Cachuma Creek.

UPDATE (7:16 p.m.) - CAL FIRE reports containment of the Lake Fire has reached 16 percent as of Tuesday evening.

UPDATE (4:06 p.m.) - A new road closure has been announced on Calzada Avenue at Roblar Avenue.

The closure on Figueroa Mountain Road has been moved to 1/2 mile from Highway 154.

UPDATE (3:33 p.m.) - The Lake Fire has grown to 26,986 acres as of Tuesday afternoon, according to CAL FIRE.

UPDATE (12:38 p.m.) - New Evacuation Orders have been issued for the following areas:

• Woodstock and Goat Rock areas
• SB Ranger area (remote forest area east of Goat Rock)

Additional Evacuation Warnings are in place for the following areas:

• East and north of Alisos Road, west of Cachuma Creek, and south of the U.S. Forest Service entrance at Happy Canyon Road
• East of Highway 154, north of Armour Ranch Road/Secretariate Street, west of Alisos Road, and south of the Woodstock area
• East of Figueroa Mountain Road, north of Highway 154, west of Calzada Avenue/West Oak Trail Road and south of Woodstock Road

UPDATE (11:43 a.m.) - In the latest briefing on the Lake Fire, fire officials said crews have made good progress in the northwest area of the fire while activity has picked up in the east. Getting a handle on the southeast area of the fire remains the firefighters' highest priority as they are expecting more activity in that area today.

(7:51 a.m.) - The Lake Fire burning near Zaca Lake has charred 26,176 acres.

The latest update released by CAL FIRE Tuesday morning shows the fire is now 12 percent contained.

It broke out late Friday afternoon, quickly burning thousands of acres of grass, brush and timber in the Los Padres National Forest.

Fire officials say most of the fire’s growth is in the southeast portion of the fire.

A large plume of smoke could be seen from miles away on Monday, which left some planes unable to make drops on the fire.

Firefighters from in and out of the state are battling the fire with additional crews being brought in as fire officials work to keep the flames from spreading to homes and businesses in the south-easterly part of the fire.

Fire officials say some terrain in the area is difficult to access.

Monday night, new evacuation orders were issued for parts of Figueroa Mountain south of Tunnel House at the Sisquoc River, east of Figueroa Creek, north of the southern end of Cachuma Mountain, and west of Los Padres National Forest areas.

Additional evacuation warnings were issued for the area of Goat Rock, east of Figueroa Creek, north of the U.S. Forest Service entrance at Happy Canyon Road, and south of Cachuma Mountain.

Evacuation orders were already in place for all areas from Figueroa Mountain Road at Junction Camp (including Tunnel Rd.) to Chamberlin Ranch, and all areas from Zaca Lake Road at Foxen Canyon Road north to the Sisquoc River including east of Foxen Canyon Road to the 9000 block and north to the Sisquoc River (including Rancho Sisquoc).

The Red Cross opened an evacuation shelter at the Solvang Veterans Memorial Building located at 1745 Mission Drive in Solvang, but placed it on standby status since it was not being used. If needed, the Red Cross states it will reopen.
