SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) — The Runnels County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning to the public on July 9 about a scammer pretending to be one of its own.

According to RCSO , it has received multiple reports of an unknown individual calling residents while masquerading as a Runnels County deputy. Once on the line, the scammer requests “payment of a fine before a warrant is issued for your arrest.”

The office also stated that the phone number being used to call targets is shown as the RCSO phone number.

RCSO wishes to remind the public that deputies will not call to collect money.

“At no time will the Runnels County Sheriff’s Office call to ask for payments of fines,” RCSO said.

The scam is one of several fake deputy phone scams reported within the Concho Valley in recent months. On June 3, the Menard County Sheriff’s Office issued a public service announcement about one such scam affecting the people of Menard County, and the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office did likewise for the residents of its county regarding a separate scam on June 7.
