    As we enter the fifth week of our Summer Reading Program, the Shepard-Pruden Memorial Library is excited to announce a new feature in our first-floor children’s room. Our youngest patrons can now enjoy playing at our Lego table while reading all about Pete the Cat.

    Available at the front desk, you can check out a box of Legos, set up at the Lego table, and let your imagination run wild while waiting for the next Summer Reading Program event.

    Speaking of programming, this week it is all about space and lizards! This week, patrons will be able to see some lizards and snakes, journey through space in a planetarium, craft your own constellation, and enjoy a family-friendly matinée of a robot that takes a trip through space while trying to clean up his home planet. Look below for our full schedule:

    • OBX Lizard Land — Tuesday, July 16, at 10:30 a.m. for all ages;

    • Storytime with Lee Lolkema: Buzzing Bees: Wednesday, July 17, at 11 a.m. for kids up to age 5;

    • Pop-Up Planetarium with the NC Museum of Natural Sciences: Wednesday, July 17, at 11 a.m. for kids ages 6-12;

    • Teen Craft: Constellation Jars: Thursday, July 18, at 1:30 p.m. for kids ages 11-18; pre-registration required;

    • Family Matinee: Friday, July 19, at 2 p.m. for all ages;

    • Brunch With the Author: Julia Townsend: Saturday, July 20, at 11 a.m.

    If you are a little hungry on Saturday morning, stop by the library for our Brunch with the Author speaker series. This week, we sit down with local artist and illustrator Julia Townsend as she tells us all about the process of creating children’s books with wonderful pictures and paintings. Starting at 11 a.m. on July 20, attendees will be treated to light refreshments, followed by a discussion and signing with the author.

    If you have any questions about the events this upcoming week, stop by the front desk or give us a call at 252-482-4112. Check out some of our latest releases below! Have a great week, and we hope to see you at the library.
