(Pottawattamie Co) Pottawattamie County Emergency Management Director Doug Reed updated the Board of Supervisors this morning on the ongoing disaster recovery response.

Pottawattamie County was impacted by a tornado and severe storms on April 26th, flash flooding and severe weather from May 21st through the end of May, and the recent flooding of the Missouri River.

“County roads has opened up a lot of the roads as of last night in the northwest part of the county, so I have my folks going up there to start damage assessments on the Missouri River flooding,” explained Reed.

He said FEMA is at the Lakin campus this week and they will return to Minden July 29th through August 3rd. Reed said he is meeting with FEMA today to discuss possibly putting a fixed site in the county.

“With the flood going to a joint preliminary damage assessment now for individual and public assistance, it might be a good idea to just have a fixed site somewhere in the county to cover everything from April on through that is eligible and we can keep them here instead of having a week or a two-week break coming back and forth all the time,” stated Reed.

Reed also mentioned that he is going to meet with some folks at the Minden City Council meeting to get them on board with a community specific recovery coordinator and community planner.
