Dogs can be friends with animals that aren't dogs. It's something we've seen a thousand times before, both in movies and real life, but it never makes it any less magical when we see it.

On Monday, July 8th, one farmer managed to catch footage of the amazing friendship between her farm dog and a very friendly fawn. They truly look like something out of a Disney movie:

Sarah Ransom's everyday life and views seriously look like a dream. I would love to be able to start my day off with this adorable view!

This is so sweet, for so many reasons. The deer is a frequent visitor of this farm, and he name is Ellie: she loves to go over for snacks, pets, and some time with her bestie, Mama Dog. Mama Dog was actually a stray that turned up on the farm: she was incredibly scared of humans, malnourished, and pregnant.

They took her in after she had her litter of ten puppies. They didn't have room for them, so the pups went to a no-kill shelter nearby, but Mama Dog stayed put. Now, she lives with two other dogs, goats, cows, and a deer who apparently likes to like Mama Dog's ears.

Can Deer Live Without Their Mothers?

It seems like Ellie is legitimately a pet deer : she first appeared on the TikTok account about a month ago, and there was a video of her being bottle-fed some milk shortly thereafter. We're not told how Ellie came to be, but whatever the case is, her mom is not around.

If they're caught in time, deer can live long and happy lives after being abandoned by/removed from their mothers at a young age. They'll need to be hand-raised by a human in a sanctuary or, best-case scenario, "adopted" by another doe . Deer generally cannot survive on their own in the wild at about 5 months old. Before that, they need milk or a milk replacement.

Since Ellie is being raised around farm animals, she'll never feel "isolated" from her herd, even as she grows up. Since she's been being raised by a human, she'll never be able to go back to the wild; she has no idea how to forage enough to sustain herself. Luckily for her, she's got a lifelong friend in Mama Dog, and she still has a family. She deserves it!
