    Beryl update, Monday afternoon

    Southeast Texas fared well with the arrival of Tropical Storm Beryl Monday with no major damage reported.

    Port Arthur Emergency Management Coordinator Jermey Houston said as of 3:30 p.m. Monday there was one road closure in effect at Gulfway Drive at the underpass near Houston Avenue due to water.

    Drainage in the city has worked well, he said, and there were no incidents or injuries reported.

    Port Arthur Mayor Thurman Bartie and the Emergency Management Team of Port Arthur, along with representatives of the police, fire and health departments will host a Hurricane Preparedness Workshop at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Bob Bowers Civic Center, 3401 Cultural Center Drive.

    Houston said even though the city has experienced just experienced Tropical Storm Beryl, they want to make sure citizens are prepared for the predicted active hurricane season this year.

    Nederland Fire Chief Terry Morton said the city’s public safety complex, which houses the police, fire and central dispatch, is on generator power Monday afternoon.

    NFD did take a few calls of downed lines and a tree down on power lines but no injuries or major incidents were reported.

    Port Neches Fire Chief Eloy Vega said they had some downed power lines tree limbs early Monday morning that were promptly cleared out.

    There was also a pole fire around 9 a.m. near Port Neches Avenue. Fire crews were on standby as crews from Entergy worked to make the pole operational.

    Vega said they are prepared for the hurricane season and hopes all citizens and safe and well informed and prepared.

    Groves Fire Chief Lance Billeaud said the city fared very well during the storm having seen some tree limbs in power lines but no flooding or major issues.
