Reminder: Kamala Harris wants the president to be a dictator

For all the talk of former President Donald Trump’s comments that he would be a dictator “for one day” after winning, less attention has been paid to the fact that Vice President Kamala Harris believes the president should be a dictator every day.

There is a very real shot that Harris becomes the president if Democrats win in November, either through her replacing President Joe Biden as the nominee or her replacing Biden shortly into his second term in office given his rapidly diminishing mental faculties. This should be cause for concern, because Harris proved during the 2020 Democratic primary that she would try and act as a dictator in office if she were given the opportunity.

Harris laid out her view of the presidency clearly when talking about gun control. She has supported “mandatory buybacks” (i.e., gun confiscation) and opposed the individual right to own firearms, but it was during a town hall during her failed presidential run that she let her dictatorial mask slip. “Upon being elected, I will give Congress 100 days to get their act together and have the courage to pass reasonable gun safety laws, and if they fail to do it, then I will take executive action,” Harris said .

She, as president, would “give” Congress 100 days to pass the exact laws that she wants. If not, she would just do what she wanted anyway, unilaterally, in defiance of the legislature. That is Harris’s view of how the presidency should work, and that is how she publicly and proudly promised to act.

Harris did not misspeak here, either, because she has a record of authoritarianism. She laughed at Biden during a debate for saying the president couldn’t erase the Second Amendment with an executive order. She made it clear she does not think Catholics should be able to serve in the judicial branch. Her career reputation as a prosecutor was less about locking up violent career criminals and more about how she abused her power and the law to get the outcomes she wanted.

Harris is a wannabe authoritarian waiting in the wings, just one Biden heartbeat away from the presidency. Both her record and her own words have promised that she would try to be a dictator every day of her presidency, and she poses a far greater “threat to democracy” than another Trump term, given that we have already seen how the latter played out last time.
