Lamorne Morris has booked a key role opposite Nicolas Cage in MGM’s live-action adaptation of the Marvel comic Spider-Man Noir .

The New Girl vet has boarded Spider-Noir in the series-regular role of Robbie Robertson, TVLine has confirmed. “Driven, hard-working, and won’t take no for an answer,” Robbie is “a dedicated journalist trying to make it with the odds stacked against him as a Black professional in 1930s New York,” according to the official character breakdown. “He takes on riskier stories that no one else would touch in order to catch attention and a paycheck,” and is “willing to do whatever is necessary for his career.”

Additionally, Brendan Gleeson ( Mr. Mercedes ) has joined the series in an undisclosed villain role, per our sister site Variety .

Oscar winner Cage is set to star in the series, bringing to life Spider-Man Noir, the character he voiced in 2018’s animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse . Spider-Noir is being showrun by executive producers Oren Uziel ( The Lost City ) and Steve Lightfoot ( Marvel’s The Punisher ). Harry Bradbeer ( Killing Eve ) is set to direct and executive-produce the first two episodes.

The series will debut Stateside on MGM+’s linear channel, then stream globally (including in the U.S.) on Prime Video. It tells the story of an aging and down-on-his-luck private investigator (played by Cage) who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.

Uziel and Lightfoot developed the series with the Academy Award-winning team behind the aforementioned Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse : Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal, who will also serve as executive producers.

Morris is best known to TV audiences for his turn as Winston Bishop — aka Winnie the Bish… aka aka aka Brown Lightning — in the Fox sitcom New Girl , which ran for seven seasons and ended in 2018. That was followed by starring roles in Hulu’s Woke and Season 5 of FX’s Fargo . He’ll next be seen in Season 2 of Netflix’s Unstable .
